1SAGAIN & JU BORA: ENDLESS WINTER

By Paris365 on December 19, 2014

1SAGAIN & JU BORA: ENDLESS WINTER

I couldn't find a Wiki page in English about 1sAgain but a Luminosity page about Ju Bora states that she frequently collaborates with him. So, I'm assuming 1sAgain is the one who's doing the rapping, since that voice sounds male, and Ju Bora is doing the singing since that voice sounds female.

Well, I couldn't find a link for this on iTunes. And I couldn't find a translation either. But the song is out there, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find. Maybe it's even on Spotify. In any case, 1sagain & Ju Bora have concocted a lovely song here. The relatively down-tempo beats split the difference between R&B and K-Pop; suffice to say it's in Korean. And this one is *totally* in Korean. I didn't notice a single word in English. They don't even sing/say/rap the title of the song.

PIUS: GIVE LOVE ON CHRISTMAS DAY

By Paris365 on December 19, 2014

PIUS: GIVE LOVE ON CHRISTMAS DAY

An incredible Christmas song -- in English -- from soulful K-Popper PIUS.

K-Pop soul singer Pius has given us a Christmas song this year -- and it's in English. It's gorgeous, too. If you like harmonizing, you have to give this one a listen. It's right up there with The Beach Boys' "God Only Knows." Layers and layers of vocals. I think he had a whole chorus of guys backing him because there are parts when you can hear the different voices. But mostly their voices blend together in perfect harmony.

Crayon Pop, K-Much, Bob Girls, & Zan Zan: 2014 Chrome Family - A Very Special Christmas

Crayon Pop, K-Much, Bob Girls, & Zan Zan: 2014 Chrome Family - A Very Special Christmas

Crayon Pop + Christmas = bliss

The name of this single isn't A Very Special Christmas, apparently that's the title of an album or EP that Chrome Family label artists are releasing songs for. I don't know why they'd release the tracks one song at a time, but then Korean labels often release movie soundtracks in parts, so I suppose it's not surprising.

THE BARBERETTES: Carol: Hun Hun Christmas

THE BARBERETTES: Carol: Hun Hun Christmas

If you're a fan of '60's pop music and you like Christmas music, this EP will have you jumping with joy.

To be totally honest, I'd never heard of The Barberettes before randomly coming across this EP, which caught my eye because it's called Christmas and I'm quite the sucker for Christmas music. Well, it did not disappoint, all four tunes being charmers.

Here's a little info about the trio from their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TheBarberettesKorea)...

SUNNY: FIRST KISS

By Paris365 on December 04, 2014

SUNNY: FIRST KISS

Sunny delivers a gorgeous rendition of Hwang Jungmi's "First Kiss" as part of Hwang Sungje's Project Super Hero.

There seems to be an unwritten law that the girls of Girls' Generation (SNSD) must do a solo song for some movie soundtrack at some point. Actually, it seems like members from all girl groups usually do songs for soundtracks when they first test the waters alone. And usually these songs are ballads. Why, I don't know. To that end, Sunny already did a solo song recently with "The 2nd Drawer" for "여왕의 교실 OST `두 번째 서랍`." It was a sweet, warm ballad that I've listened to 77 times so far according to my iTunes player; it's on one of the playlists I listen to while falling asleep at night.

LEE JUN KI: EXHALE

By Paris365 on December 02, 2014

LEE JUN KI: EXHALE

Exhale opens with a lively song that splits the difference between pop and R&B, "Ma Lady." It opens with a wash of synth over which Lee speaks in English, apparently addressing the lady the song is about. "I've been waiting for a long time," he says before exhaling.

Lee Jun Ki is a hugely popular Korean actor who has starred in 10 television series since 2003. Exhale is his sixth mini-album. Oddly enough, he's been releasing music since 2006 but he's yet to release a full-length album, always going the mini-album route, save for a one song single ("One & Only) that he released in 2006.

T-ARA: CHUCKIE and T-ARA: SUGARFREE EDMEDITION

T-ARA: CHUCKIE and T-ARA: SUGARFREE EDMEDITION

What we have here is a remix of the EDM version of T-ARA's "Sugarfree."

What we have here is a remix of the EDM version of T-ARA's "Sugarfree." The remix was done by Chuckie and I'm really not impressed, largely because he used very little of the girls' vocals and T-ARA minus T-ARA is not very good. Yes, it's harder and it's faster than the original EDMEDITION of the song, but you take away 90 percent of the vocals and you've just ruined it for me. Of course, if you're a big fan of T-ARA like me then you'll have to have it, but unless you're a T-ARA otaku or especially like remixes with very few vocals then I'd say save yourself $1.29 and avoid this one.

TAETISEO: 2ND MINI-ALBUM "HOLLER"

By Paris365 on September 17, 2014

TAETISEO: 2ND MINI-ALBUM "HOLLER"

As you probably know, TaeTiSeo is a Girls Generation sub-unit consisting of Tae Yeon, Tiffany, and Seo Hyun. The name TaeTiSeo is a combination of the beginnings of each of their names. Their first mini-album, Twinkle, performed really well, hence another mini-album from them. And it might as well be another Girls' Generation mini-album because we're talking about some high quality, incredible K-Pop here.

T-ARA: AND & END [AKA SUGAR FREE: T-ARA EDM EDIT]

Now that Ji Yeon and Hyo Min are done promoting their solo careers (for now), T-ARA are back with AND & END, a brand new mini-album and it's a real smash.

Now that Ji Yeon and Hyo Min are done promoting their solo careers (for now), T-ARA are back with AND & END, a brand new mini-album and it's a real smash. Granted, in my eyes T-ARA can't do any wrong, but if I wasn't a T-ARA fan already then this mini-album surely would have converted me. So, if you're not a fan, I think you should give this one a listen and reconsider. If you love K-Pop, I just can't imagine you not liking it.
This is K-Pop on the scale of 2NE1 and SNSD.

ORANGE CARAMEL: TONIGHT [FROM THE SOUNDTRACK "IT'S OK, IT'S LOVE"]

By Paris365 on September 11, 2014

ORANGE CARAMEL: TONIGHT [FROM THE SOUNDTRACK "IT'S OK, IT'S LOVE"]

K-Pop doesn't get much better than this.

Usually I don't get very excited when my favorite K-Pop stars do songs for movies because these songs tend to be very generic ballads. Heard one, you've heard them all. Actually, OK, I'm a hypocrite because I put these songs on my sleepytime playlists and enjoy them in that capacity. But seldom does an actual non-ballad, full-blown pop song come out on one of these soundtracks, especially not when the movies are dramas. But I'm quite thankful to be able to say that Orange Caramel's new song "Tonight" is a jumpy, contagious example of sleek K-Pop bliss.

RED VELVET: HAPPINESS

By Paris365 on August 03, 2014

RED VELVET: HAPPINESS

It's controversial and you know it.

This morning I posted a Tweet from my personal account (not Otaku or Love is Pop) stating that "Red Velvet Pop Tarts are so fucking addictive." Of course, I was talking about Pop Tarts toaster pastries. But one of my Otaku readers tweeted that he thought I was talking about the new SM group for a second. And, to tell you the truth, I wasn't sure what he was talking about, having been very busy the past few days -- saw Katy Perry (awesome) -- for one thing. Meanwhile, I've had some eye strain headaches. So, no, I hadn't heard about Red Velvet yet.

GIRL'S DAY: GIRL`S DAY EVERYDAY #4

By Paris365 on July 24, 2014

GIRL'S DAY: GIRL`S DAY EVERYDAY #4

Girl's Day return with a new summer-themed mini-album. It's great, but the "intro" is the best track, leaving one wishing it was a complete song.

The new Girl's Day mini-album is called Girl's Day Everyday #4, but there's a slight problem with that, which is that the mini-album is oh so very summer-themed. The sort of release that you'll play all summer then ditch in the fall and maybe play again starting halfway through next spring. To that end, I wonder why they didn't release this in June and give it another month of shelf-life instead of putting it out in mid-July.

f(x): 3집 THE THIRD ALBUM: RED LIGHT

By Paris365 on July 09, 2014

f(x): 3집 THE THIRD ALBUM: RED LIGHT

The album opens with the title track, "Red Light," a trippy yet bouncy tune that will probably confuse you the first time you listen to it. It's one of those wildly imaginative K-Pop songs that goes in several different directions, much like Girls' Generations' "I Got A Boy."

f(x)'s last album -- Pink Tape -- was one of my favorite albums of 2013. I hadn't heard them prior to that release, but I loved it from the very first time I listened to it and I knew I was always going to be a fan from that point on, just as other groups like 2NE1 and Girls' Generation previously made me a fan from the first time I heard them. Suffice to say that I was excited when I learned they were releasing a new album for summer 2014.

TOP.IC: SEE YOU AGAIN

By Paris365 on July 07, 2014

TOP.IC: SEE YOU AGAIN

TOP.IC's delightful "See Ya" is poised to become one of summer 2014's most defining pop songs.

These days digital singles are dropping every other day in the Asian pop world, and especially so in the K-Pop realm. It seems that labels are signing more and more artists in part because they can easily release a digital single without spending nearly what it costs to press CDs that nobody might buy. Granted, making videos for these singles can cost millions, but they can also be done on the cheap, which was probably the case with TOP.IC's video for "See Ya," the first track on their single release See You Again.

HYOMIN: MAKE UP

By Paris365 on July 01, 2014

HYOMIN: MAKE UP

The single, "Nice Boy," is tepid and highly offensive. The other two tracks are great though.

Make Up is Hyomin of T-ARA's first mini-album. The lead single is a track called "Nice Body." And it's highly offensive. I don't even know where to begin. It's just wrong on so many levels. In the video, we see an obese woman binge eating donuts. Then she sees a golden donut roll across the floor. So, of course, she picks it up from the floor and eats it. And, guess what? She turns into Hyomin, who is, as I'm sure you're aware, quite thin. I have a problem with that because it's like saying all overweight people binge eat donuts.

FLASHE: HEY YOU

By Paris365 on June 30, 2014

FLASHE: HEY YOU

"Hey you, hey you, hey you, wake up in the star," sing the girls of Flashe in English during their new tune "Hey You." Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, does it? So, there's one reason not to like Flashe's "Hey You." But, hey you, lots of K-Pop songs have lyrics that don't quite add up when you really think about them.

ORANGE CARAMEL: ABING ABING

By Paris365 on May 24, 2014

ORANGE CARAMEL: ABING ABING

One of the best K-Pop girl groups of all-time singing a song about ICE CREAM. What more could you ask for? Super yummy!

Orange Caramel's new song is apparently affiliated with Baskin Robins because they mention them specifically in the lyrics to this punchy new delight. They even mention 31 flavors, which is Baskin Robins' claim to fame. But the telling thing is that Baskin Robins is named with the copyright for the song on its iTunes page. Of course, it's possible that this could simply mean that they got Baskin Robins permission to name them in their song. So, it's not necessarily a paid endorsement.

HIGH4 & IU: 봄 사랑 벚꽃 말고 [Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms]

By Paris365 on May 20, 2014

HIGH4 & IU: 봄 사랑 벚꽃 말고 [Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms]

This one is... a dud.

Well, this one caught me by surprise. For a few reasons. One, I'd never heard of HIGH4 before. Ever. So, maybe this is their first single and they're using IU to get themselves some airplay or something to that effect? I could be wrong. The other thing is, I didn't hear anything about IU doing a duet with anyone, much less a whole boy band, and I'm just surprised I didn't read anything about this. I get posts from a bunch of K-Pop news sites in my feed on Facebook. And, obviously, since I didn't even know this single existed, I did not know when it was being released.
