Fancy title aside, this single is a cover of "My Grown Up Christmas List," which was written by David Foster and first made popular in the 90s by Brandy. And you couldn't have found a better holiday song for Ailee to put her stamp on as the first year of the rising K-pop star's career comes to an end. The first version, "My Grown Up Christmas List (Christmas Wish)," is predominately in Korean, save for a line or two in English. Whoever translated it deserves serious props because it rhymes perfectly with the original English version, meshing with the melody here as if the song were initially written in Korean. As for Ailee, her vocals sound nothing short of gorgeous. She truly makes the song shine, filling it with warm, comforting vocals. In other words, she brings with her perfect holiday charm. And the lush orchestration doesn't hurt either.
The B-side is an English language cover of the song. It really doesn't differ much from the A-side except for the fact that it's in a different language. Ailee sings in English very well though, bringing just as much soul and beauty to this version. Obviously, an English language cover of the song wasn't necessary, but perhaps she did it as her Christmas gift to her many fans who don't understand Korean. Or maybe she just wanted to do the song as it was originally written to impress David Foster, since this marks the beginning of her tribute to him. Regardless, it's sure to melt the icicles outside of your house and it provides the perfect soundtrack for slow dancing with your honey this holiday. Cheers to that.
