Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy(Japanese:ファイナルファンタジーFainaru Fantajī) is a popular series of role playing games produced by Square Enix (originally Square Co., Ltd.). It may be the most widely distributed game series of all time, including bothstandard console gamesand portablegames, a massivelymultiplayer online role-playing game, games for mobilephones, three anime productions,and two full length CGI films.

The first installment of the series premiered in Japan in1987, andFinal Fantasygames have subsequently been localized formarkets in NorthAmerica, Europe and Australia,on several modern videogame consoles, including the NintendoEntertainment System, the MSX2, the SuperNintendo Entertainment System, the PlayStation,the WonderSwanColor, the PlayStation2, IBMPC compatible, GameBoy Advance, NintendoGameCube, and several different models of mobilephones. Future installments have been announced to appear on the NintendoDS, NintendoRevolution, PlayStationPortable, PlayStation3 and Xbox360 game systems. It is Square Enix's most successful franchise, havingsold over 60 million units worldwide to date.

As of late 2005, ten games have been released in the U.S. as part of the main(numbered) series, as well as many other spinoffs and related titles. The unreleasedthird entry in the series is an upcoming Nintendo DS release. North Americanrelease details have not been announced. (Wikipedia)
